        After 4 weeks of daily green-lipped mussel, dogs improved on all three measures.

        Owners saw it. Their scores for discomfort, and for how much it got in the way of everyday activity, improved by week 4.
        Vets saw it. Exam scores for stance, gait and range of motion improved by week 4 and were still better than the starting point at week 8.
        The walkway measured it. The nine dogs tested on a pressure-sensing walkway put more weight through the affected leg at week 4.
        Stopping showed too. On half the amount the gains weakened, and after two weeks without it scores had slipped back.
        No side effects were seen in any dog over the eight weeks.

        Good to know. A small study without a placebo group. It used a green-lipped mussel oil extract, 100 to 200 mg a day, in dogs whose vets had diagnosed joint problems.

        What owners ask, and what the papers say. 

        Every answer comes from the study. The short version:

        1. Give it at least four weeks.
        2. Give it every day.
        3. Start early.

        How long before I can expect to see a difference?

        In the 2024 study, which used a concentrated green-lipped mussel oil, all three measures had improved by the week 4 check. The researchers concluded that at least four weeks at the recommended amount are needed. That is why our guarantee runs 90 days and not 14.

        Can I stop once my dog is moving better?

        The study tested exactly that. After four weeks the daily amount was halved for two weeks, then stopped for two. On the half amount the gains were still there but weaker. By the end of the two weeks without it, owners' and vets' scores had slipped back from their week 4 best. Joint support works by being daily.

        Is it safe to give every day?

        None of the 15 dogs in the 2024 study showed side effects over the eight weeks. Green-lipped mussel is a shellfish, so skip it if your dog has a shellfish allergy, and ask your vet first if your dog is on medication, pregnant or nursing.
